General

What is the best time for a sailing holiday and where do we sail in Thailand?

Thailand, along with its diverse archipelagos and marine parks, boasts some of the world's finest sailing destinations that are available year-round.

Optimal sailing conditions in Phuket and Koh Chang are usually observed during the dry or northeast monsoon season, which spans from November to April. This season is characterized by steady winds, placid waters, and an abundance of sunshine, making it a perfect time for sailing and various water activities.

Koh Samui in the Southern Gulf of Thailand opens up as our third destination during the summer season which runs from May to October. The island group with its own microclimate features Ang Thong marine park and world-class diving on Koh Tao. For more information on our three primary sailing locations, click here.

Do I need sailing experience to join?

No sailing experience is necessary to join. Our sailing tours are ideal for those who are young at heart and have no prior sailing experience. You'll get an opportunity to experience the sailing lifestyle and even have the chance to try your hand at some of the basics, such as ropes, anchors and steering the yacht. All you need is a passion for adventure and a willingness to be a part of the action - our voyages are the perfect opportunity to try something new and discover the joys of sailing.

Who is the skipper/guide?

Our skipper, Armin, is dedicated to ensuring your trip is a success. He will work with you to organise and plan your holiday and will join you for the entire duration, steering and navigating the yacht. With his knowledge of the local area, he will inform you about the outdoor and cultural activities available on land and at sea. During the majority of your activities, he will lead you, excluding any special tours on land and activities such as diving, which will be led by local operators. The captain is always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have before and during your sailing vacation, so feel free to discuss anything with him. His main priority is to ensure you have an unforgettable experience.

Are there any age restrictions? Can children join our sailing cruises?

While there are no specific age restrictions for our sailing tours, we recommend that guests be at least 21 years old due to safety reasons. Our trips involve sailing on a boat and exploring the open sea, which may not be suitable for children.

I can't swim, can I still go?

Absolutely! We welcome all guests on our sailing tours, regardless of their swimming ability. We prioritize your safety and comfort and provide lifejackets on board. Additionally, we have lifesaving buoys available in case of emergency situations. So, even if you don't know how to swim, you can still join our cruises for a worry-free adventure.

How many people are typically on a boat?

Our topmost priority is to offer our guests an exceptional experience, and to achieve this, we limit the number of people on board. This ensures that every guest has ample space to unwind and relish their sailing trip. Typically, our yachts can comfortably accommodate up to six people, along with the skipper. This not only guarantees guests have abundant space but also allows for a personalized experience while on their voyage.

Can I bring my pet cat or dog?

While we understand the desire to bring your furry friends along for the trip, unfortunately we cannot allow pets on board for safety and suitability reasons. We want to ensure the comfort and safety of all guests on board, and accommodating pets may compromise this.

Will there be partying on board?

Absolutely! Our ultimate goal is to offer all guests an unforgettable and pleasurable sailing journey, irrespective of whether they prefer a lively or more relaxed atmosphere. Whether it involves more or less partying, we strive to ensure that all our guests have a fantastic time. However, it's worth noting that while socializing and having a drink on board is typically part of the experience, the primary focus of our tours is the thrill of sailing and exploring the picturesque scenery around us.

What kind of wildlife can be seen during my holidays?

The type of wildlife you can observe varies depending on the location and season. In Phuket and Koh Samui, you may see marine animals such as tropical fish, dolphins, whales, sea turtles and dugongs. On land, monkeys, lizards, and snakes are commonly found in these areas, and other small mammals while trekking through the rainforest. You can also spot a variety of bird species, such as eagles, kingfishers and hornbills. In Koh Chang, visitors may see elephants, macaques, gibbons, and a variety of bird and butterfly species in the island's lush tropical rainforest.

What language is spoken on board?

Our skipper, Armin, speaks both English and German fluently and also has some proficiency in Thai. So, whether you're an English speaker or a German speaker you'll be able to communicate with our skipper during your sailing adventure.

Do we have to take care of the skipper?

Traditionally, the skipper is taken care of by the group on board.

Booking & pricing

How do I book?

We're thrilled to hear that you're interested in joining us on a sailing tour! To book a tour, simply fill out our contact form on our website here with your desired travel dates, number of people in your group, as well as any plans or ideas you have in mind for your trip so far. We'll get back to you as soon as possible to start working on your itinerary!

What is the suggested duration for my sailing holidays?

To experience the full leisurely charm of sailing, it's best to let the sea breeze carry you at a relaxed pace and allow nature to take its course. For this reason, we suggest a minimum charter duration of eight days (seven nights) for all our sailing destinations. However, for Phuket and Krabi in the Andaman Sea, we recommend considering a duration of up to 14 days as the area features a diverse range of breath-taking locations to explore that can make your sailing experience even more memorable.

Keelboat or catamaran – what is better?

We typically recommend catamarans due to their spaciousness, comfort, and excellent sailing experience. However, we understand that some individuals may prefer the traditional sailing experience of a monohull. We'll provide you with more details on both options and help you choose the one that best suits your needs and preferences.

Which dates are available?

To obtain detailed information on availability, kindly get in touch with us, and we'll gladly provide you with the latest updates. Typically, we can cater to your desired sailing dates - please inform us of your preferred time frame, and our team will work with you to create a customized itinerary based on your travel schedule.

When should I book?

We highly recommend booking your sailing trip as early as possible to secure your preferred dates and yacht. It is recommended that you begin contacting us at least one year ahead of time to arrange for optimal yacht selection. Nevertheless, if you have a last-minute request, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to check availability for you.

How many people do I need to book a sailing trip?

Our main goal in planning your holiday is to ensure that you have a wonderful time! As a result, we recommend that you gather your partners, family and friends and create a group of six individuals who have common interests for an unforgettable experience. If you encounter difficulties finding a group of six, please inform us, and we will do our best to assist you in locating additional sailors to fill the remaining cabin space and optimize the cost of the trip..

What is the process after I submit the contact form?

After you fill up the contact form we'll contact you shortly to discuss your preferred dates, destinations and yacht type. We also advise you on pricing and payment terms. Once everything is confirmed, you'll transfer us the 1st charter payment of 50% within 10 days and the remaining 2nd charter payment plus the security deposit 6 weeks before your trip starts. After that, you can proceed to book other things like flights, accommodation etc. for the rest of your holidays.

What's the price of a sailing vacation?

Our sailing tours typically range between 170 – 200 euros per day per guest, which includes the charter of the yacht (excluding diesel, gasoline, water) as well as the services of the captain. Please note that this price may vary based on several factors, such as the yacht's size and type, your preferred destination, the season, trip duration, distance travelled, number of guests onboard, and any additional services you may require e.g. road transport etc.

Additional costs you should be aware of include purchasing provisions, paying for food and drinks on land, National Marine Park fees, and any other activities you'd like to participate in during your trip, such as kayaking, diving excursions, massages, scooter rentals, and more.

How does the refundable security deposit work?

A refundable security deposit is a standard practice in the yacht charter industry. The cost of the security deposit varies according to the size and make of the yacht, and we require it to provide security against damage to the yacht, loss of its equipment or later return. We have always been fortunate to have respectful and responsible guests on board, and as a result, we have never had to utilize the security deposit. Rest assured that if no damages occur during the charter, we will gladly refund the deposit in full at the end of the trip. We would ask the security deposit to be paid in full together with the 2nd charter payment.

Why do I need to sign an indemnity form?

The indemnity form is a legal document that outlines the terms and conditions of the tour and the responsibilities of the participants. By signing the indemnity form, you are acknowledging that you understand and agree to these terms, including the potential risks and hazards involved in sailing. It is a necessary precaution to ensure the safety of all participants and to protect the tour operator from any liability in case of accidents or injuries that may occur during the tour.

Do I get my money back if something happens to the yacht during the tour?

First and foremost, we would like to reassure our clients that we have never had to cancel a tour part way through due to any problem with the yacht. We have a wide network of partner companies in the sailing areas we operate in, which allows us to handle any unforeseen situations that may arise. If there is damage that cannot be fixed by the skipper, we can quickly arrange for a specialist to come on board to carry out the repairs. In cases where the problem cannot be resolved, we have access to a replacement yacht from a nearby charter base. We are also in touch with many skippers who can step in at short notice if the assigned skipper is unable to make it. However, if it still proves impossible to complete a tour, we will refund the money paid in full to you and your crew. We strongly recommend that participants take out travel cancellation insurance for their journey as we are unable to reimburse the cost of flights, which are typically booked by the participants themselves

Getting there

What are the best flight connections to Thailand?

We understand that finding the right flights to your desired destination can sometimes be a challenge. Therefore, we recommend that you check the available flights first before choosing your destination, especially if you have specific time or budget constraints. It's always better to ensure that suitable flights are available before you start planning your dream sailing trip.

How do I arrive?

Each participant is responsible for arranging their own travel to the destination, typically by air. Our departure marinas are conveniently located near airports that are served by multiple airlines. If participants are arriving from neighbouring countries, they are welcome to choose the mode of transport that best suits them, whether it's by train, bus, or car. We are always available to provide guidance and advice regarding flights and transport options to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience.

When do I plan my travel and departure?

We understand that planning your arrival and departure can be stressful, but don't worry - we'll be happy to advise you on the details once you contact us. In general, chartered yachts typically leave the marina around noon, so you'll need to arrive earlier to check in, load your luggage and provisions, and get familiarized with the yacht. We recommend that you plan to arrive at your destination the day before your sailing trip and spend a night in a hotel to rest and refresh. We are happy to offer assistance with planning your accommodations. This way, you can wake up feeling energized and ready to embark on your sailing adventure.

Likewise, we usually arrive back at the marina on the final day of the trip between noon and 2 pm. It's crucial to ensure you have enough time between check-out and your onward journey, so please plan accordingly.

How do we get to the marina from the airport?

The marinas we depart from are typically located close to the airport and can be easily reached by taxi within 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the location. Alternatively, if you'd prefer, we can provide road transport services to pick you up from the airport or the hotel you’re staying at and drop you off at the marina.

What should I pack for my trip?

When it comes to packing for your sailing trip, it's important to remember to bring essentials like personal hygiene products and medications. As for clothes, it's best to dress appropriately for warm weather, and don't forget to pack swimsuits and plenty of sun protection items such as sunscreen, hats, and polarized sunglasses. For a more comprehensive list of items we recommend check out our packing guide here.

Is there a limit on luggage that can be brought onboard the boat?

For your comfort and convenience during the voyage, we recommend that you bring a medium-sized luggage and a smaller backpack or handbag. Therefore, we suggest bringing a collapsible bag, duffel bag or backpack. This will allow you to carry all your essential items without taking up too much space on the yacht. Please note that we do not allow hard luggage and suitcases on board, as they may damage the yacht's interior.

For our regular dingy commutes it's highly recommended to bring 10 - 20ltr waterproof dry-bags. We also recommend packing light and leaving unnecessary items at home to ensure a hassle-free trip.

Do I need to bring my own bedding & towels?

Our yachts come with comfortable bedsheets, a pillow, and a blanket for each guest, which is sufficient for the tropical climate. Additionally, we provide two towels per person for use on board, but kindly request that you bring your own beach towel.

Life onboard

Is the sailing route fixed?

Our priority is for you to fully enjoy the freedom of sailing. As such, we do not predefine our sailing route, rather, we take into account our guests' mood, the weather and the wind direction. The Skipper will assist in planning the itinerary to ensure that we rely on sails as much as possible, avoiding the use of the engines. Hence, our routes may be adjusted based on wind speed and direction. We will plan an ideal mix of bay swimming and shore excursions that will cater to the group's preferences. Our sailing tours are usually designed to cover the most interesting spots in the surrounding areas. However, you and your crew are free to change plans, if the crew is in the mood for an adventure or if a particular destination piques your interest.

What's a typical sailing day?

A typical sailing day starts with breakfast, after which we usually set sail around 10am. On some days, we may need to leave earlier to cover longer distances. The day is spent island hopping, exploring the region, swimming, and snorkelling. We can include other activities like kayaking or diving. For particularly beautiful spots, we can take a day off from sailing, especially on 2-week trips. In the late afternoon or evening, we will anchor and head out for dinner at a local Thai restaurant or a nice resort. To unwind, we often enjoy a traditional Thai massage before returning to the boat for the night in picturesque bays or exciting ports. You can browse our gallery here to catch a glimpse of life on board and see what we've done on our past trips.

Will I get seasick?

While it's possible that you may experience seasickness, we generally sail in calm areas with good weather conditions, so the likelihood of it occurring is low. If you do happen to feel unwell, don't worry as the symptoms typically subside within 1-2 days as your body adjusts to the motion of the boat. We can also recommend which boats, destinations and seasons are better for a smoother sailing experience. In case you are worried bring some sea sickness pills along.

Do I have to work onboard?

Although there is work to be done on board, it is not excessively demanding and can be a pleasurable and gratifying experience. The captain will require all crew members' participation in various duties, such as setting the sails, mooring and casting off, anchoring, heating up food, securing the dinghy and washing the deck. However, there is still plenty of time for relaxation and admiring the stunning surroundings. After all, everyone has the opportunity to experience sailing first-hand!

Which cabin do I sleep in?

On the first day of the cruise, cabins will be assigned to each guest. The skipper will work together with the guests to decide on cabin allocation. Additionally, if weather conditions are favourable, guests can choose to sleep on deck and take in the beautiful views and refreshing breeze.

What are the accommodations and bathrooms on board like?

You'll have a comfortable stay in our cosy double cabins, which come with pillows, sheets and linen provided. For your convenience, we have two bathrooms on board, complete with shower & toilet facilities to help you freshen up after a day of exploring the tropical paradise. There’s also a shower available on the swimming platform for rinsing off after swimming. Our boats also come equipped with a full kitchenette so you can enjoy delicious meals and snacks during your sailing adventure. Find out more about our yachts and facilities on board here.

Smoking on the boat?

Yes, smoking is allowed on the yacht but only on the deck as it is an open-air area. Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the cabins for safety reasons. Additionally, we insist that cigarette butts are not disposed of in the sea, as we care about the environment and want to keep the ocean clean at any given time.

Is there mobile phone reception?

In our experience, cell phone reception is generally available on board for most of the trip, except when we are farther away from the shore. However, there may be some areas where reception is weak or unavailable. You can also charge your mobile phone and other devices on the yacht.

Is there WiFi onboard?

While there is no Wi-Fi on board the yacht, we understand the need to stay connected. We provide data (via hotspot) free of charge, so that you can keep in touch with your loved ones and share your experiences during your trip. Most of our guests however usually buy a local sim card to stay connected during their Thai holidays anyway.

What's cooking like onboard? I can't cook, is this a problem?

If you're feeling adventurous and would like to try your hand at cooking on board, we have a well-equipped kitchenette with pots, pans and other utensils you may need. Of course, if cooking isn't your thing, no worries! We always recommend exploring the local cuisine and getting takeaways for the days when we'll be far from any resort or restaurants on land.

In general, for provisioning on all our sailing trips, we recommend all our guests to purchase mainly drinks to keep you hydrated and refreshed throughout the journey. As for food, we recommend buying takeaways from local restaurants. This not only saves time and hassle, leaving you with more time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and activities, but also allows you to savour the authentic and delicious Thai cuisine available. Of course there will always be delicious Thai fruits and snacks around on our yacht!

I'm vegan and/or have other food allergies and intolerances?

If you have any specific dietary requirements, such as being vegan or having food intolerances and allergies, please let us know before the trip. While we cannot guarantee that we can accommodate all requests, we will do our best to make arrangements that suit your needs.

Is snorkeling/diving gear provided?

You’ll find snorkelling gear on board (masks, snorkels, fins). While we provide standard snorkelling gear, you are welcome to bring your own snorkelling masks and fins for the best fit and comfort. Diving gear is not allowed on board due to damage that may be caused by the dive tanks. However, we arrange diving excursions for guests who are interested, which are conducted by local dive operators that also supply the necessary equipment. You need to bring a PADI or equivalent certification to join an organized diving trip.

Is fishing gear provided?

We can provide optional fishing gear such as rods, reels, and lures for our guests' enjoyment. Just keep in mind that if a lure is lost during fishing, it will need to be replaced at the guest's expense.

Are kayaks and stand up paddle boards provided?

We provide the additional option to rent two-person kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, which can be arranged during the trip planning process. Our stand-up paddle boards are all over 350cm long x 80cm wide (11.5” x 31"), suitable for both beginners and children to learn quickly and experienced riders to enjoy. Rentals also come with an adjustable paddle and leash.

Security & safety

Is it safe to sail in Thailand?

Thailand is Asia's premier sailing destination, offering a safe, secure and unforgettable experience. The country's unspoiled bays and secluded beaches provide ample opportunities for finding a picturesque anchorage all to yourself. The stable tropical weather, coupled with the close proximity of the islands (usually just 5-10 nautical miles apart), ensures that sailing is smooth and uncomplicated. The abundance of islands also means you can effortlessly locate a protected bay for the night.

Do I need insurance for the trip?

We highly recommend that you consider purchasing travel, cancellation, health, accident, liability, and luggage insurance to protect yourself and your belongings during your sailing trip. Please note that the cost of these insurances is not included in the tour price, and we advise that you organize them yourself.

a. Travel Insurance. Recommended to have when travelling abroad. It covers costs in the event of cancelled flights or other unforeseen circumstances.

b. Travel Cancellation Insurance. Covers the cost of withdrawing from the trip due to unforeseen circumstances. It's recommended to have in case of serious accidents or other emergencies.

c. International Health Insurance. Check with your health insurance provider to see if your policy is valid in the area where the sailing trip takes place. If not, it is recommended to take out your own foreign health insurance.

d. Accident Insurance. Health insurance may cover treatment costs, but compensation costs remain uncovered. It is recommended to take out your own foreign accident insurance.

e. Liability Insurance. Accidents can happen, and damage may not always be manageable. Liability insurance is recommended to cover costs in case of accidental damage.

f. Luggage Insurance. Additionally, guests may consider if they’d like to insure luggage in case of loss, damage or theft.

Do we need yacht insurance? Is the skipper insured?

There's no need for you to obtain any extra insurance for the yacht – the refundable security deposit to be paid upfront will suffice. Our skipper is fully insured with a professional skipper liability policy.

Is the skipper sufficiently qualified for the trip?

Our skipper holds an international sailing and radio license from the International Yacht Training Worldwide Inc. He has years of sailing experience and knows our destinations and the surrounding waters well. He has the competence and skills to safely navigate the yacht as well as make sound decisions for the benefit of the crew and the trip as a whole.

Does the yacht have safety equipment?

Yes, safety is our top priority and all our yachts are equipped with full safety equipment including life jackets, lifebuoys, comprehensive first aid kits, fire extinguishers and fire blankets. Additionally, our skippers conduct a safety briefing at the beginning of each trip to ensure that all guests are aware of the safety procedures on board.
